The power of plants is impressive and essential oils can help us to feel better in lots of ways. Not only can they affect our mood but they can also help with a wide variety of medical problems, for example indigestion, skin complaints and the common cold. If you have congestion or a cold you could try these simple ideas at home to try to relieve your symptoms.
These suggestions use Eucalyptus essential oil, which according to Dr Axe:
"It’s one of the best essential oils for sore throats, cough, seasonal allergies and headaches. Eucalyptus oil benefits are due to its ability to stimulate immunity, provide antioxidant protection and improve respiratory circulation."
How to help congestion and colds using essential oils: -
1. Steam inhalation in the bath
Add a few drops of Eucalyptus essential oil to a tablespoon of carrier oil. A carrier oil could be coconut oil, olive oil or apricot kernel oil. Run a bath and then add your Eucalyptus mixture to the water and agitate the water to mix it in. Enjoy a bath, relax and breathe.
2. An essential oil shower soother
Add some drops of Eucalyptus essential oil to a wet flannel and hang in your shower. Turn on your shower and hop in. The heat and steam of the water will create a steam inhalation.
3. Steam inhalation - the old fashioned way
Boil some water and carefully pour into a bowl. Add a few drops of Eucalyptus essential oil and inhale. Cover your head with a towel. Be super careful with this because, as you know, you could easily burn yourself. Be sure to place the bowl on a flat surface and keep away from kids and pets.
